I ordered this book last in early 2013 as a way to help me deal with Anorexia. I was very happy when it arrived - even though it was late a few days (Jan 3). Upon receiving, I went back and read the first few days and every day after. If you have never dealt with this devastating illness, please be informed and well aware that it not only hurts the Anorexic (or Bulimic), it also hurts all those who love care for the person. This is a 365-day Devotional geared toward people battled Anorexia and/or Bulimia. Each day begins a with Bible verse and a former patient of Rumuda Ranch sharing her story of Anorexia and/or Bulimia and the underlying issue/s that fuelled it, such as rape, abuse, dysfunctional families, etc. Sadly, a lot of these women were abused or violated - I was not. BUT, like these girls/women, I have (had) become so obsessed with society's idea of beauty, my OCD tendencies, ideas of orderilness, 'perfectionism,' thinness, and the list goes on that I chose to use excessive exercise, food restriction/deprivation as a way to deal... And again like these ladies, I soon learned that what I "thought" I had "control" over now controlled me. Eating Disorders are real and they very serious-- one cannot simply "snap out of." Like these ladies, Anorexia nearly destroyed me mentally, physically, spiritually, socially and intellectually. I learned from and related well to these ladies. I still have a long way to go, but like many who shared their stories, I am aware of that and willing to take it a healthy step at a time. I highly, highly recommend this devotional to anyone battling Anorexia, MD's, Mental Health professionals - or anyone struggling with an eating disorder. It will lift your spirits, learn that you are not alone, that there is a light to lite your path - and you will be so proud once you have finished it. Use this with your youth, students, patients - anyone facing this devastating illness. There IS hope. Start with this today. As someone who suffers with an eating disorder this book is helpful. It’s encouraging to read on a daily basis.
I got this devotional several years ago, and it gave me hope.
Earlier this year I spent time at Remuda Ranch, and this devotional continued to lift my spirits. I have, unfortunately, relapsed badly, but my little devotional continues to give me encuragement and to remind me that recovery is possible.

I was turned off by the overriding Christian emphasis on a traditional Christianity (if there is one) - I kept wanting more references - and I had hoped there would be more emphasis on first hand stories following any quotes. I was disappointed in the book. Also, the day I received the book 8/23 - I looked for the day corresponding in the text for some hope and spiritual uplift and the entry is missing! There you go, maybe the Remuda Ranch will read this and include an excerpt! Day one, onwards...
My daughter has used this book and was recommended by a counselor to her. It is very good for beginning the day with God and touches on many struggles, joys, fears, etc. that those with an eating disorder go through.
Eating disorders are very challenging to overcome, but my daughter found this devotional particularly meaningful and helpful. Would recommend to anyone struggling with anorexia or bulimia.
