Lost, by Donnielle Tyner, is story about Sadie and her experiences as a Caelian orphan and her struggle with discovering her "talent". The book begins as Sadie is not only struggling with finding her talent, but is also dealing with the loss of her boyfriend, Liam. She eventually discovers her talent and becomes a target for it. Another interesting layer to the story was her relationship with Kian and the "norms", which are people who do not have talent.

Overall, I felt the premise of the story was compelling and it drew me in from the start. I particularly liked the parts describing the mist after WWI that changed people's DNA and caused some people to have "talents", while those who did not have talents were just normal people, or "norms". It was fascinating to read about the tensions between the norms and the talents and the different families that were aligned with each side. I think this was the best part of the story, and I wished there was more back story about this.

I struggled a bit with the author's writing style. At first, I was drawn into the story, but later it felt like a lot of the story was being detailed through exposition and it was hard to stay engaged at times. Also, some of the descriptions in the story were challenging for me. This is an example: "Guilt poured over me like boiling oil. I cringed as the joy and hope melted away, replaced by the sour taste of guilt, and a heavy pit of remorse opened in my chest, stealing my breath." A lot the descriptions were written in this style and I had a hard time trying to decipher some of the symbolism.

This is not a typical genre (teen/sci fi/fantasy) I would read, and that might be part of the reason I struggled with the story. I think the author has a good imagination and I hope she continues the series.

This is an interesting premise. The characters are likable and have room to change and grow as the series progresses.
If you think love is a talent, you are ready for this book. Not only does it grab you and pull you in, you will love the journey
This is the story of a girl who was part human and part 'alien'. Her father had powers or abilities and she became one of the most powerful of all these special people. Her father was also very evil. This is a good read and I recommend it to anyone.
I rarely leave reviews and even more rarely buy the sequels to the first book; but I loved this one so much that bought the box set!
There are some editing errors which are easily overlooked. Aside from that, this is a fantastic read! Tyner has created an immersive world with beautiful imagery. The main character development was expertly done and makes you fall in love with her. I can't wait to dive into the other books! I recommend this book to everyone who loves YA fantasy. Nice job!
I tried. However, the dialogue was immensely juvenile and bored me to tears. This goes into the category of "so many books, so little time". Sorry!
This is a very good YA story, but depressing. The characters were appealing and I was looking forward to the continuation of the story in the second book.

I don't know what happened. This book was well edited, but the second book has so many fundamental errors that I gave up reading it. I urge the author to edit the second book asap. This series has a lot of potential.
There is little better than a good fight to release stress. Sadie finds herself in a number of very stressful situations. First her boyfriend died. Then she is about to graduate from the Caelian orphanage without having evinced any sign of having a talent, like any other Caelian. A hot young private eye, Kian, also affects her emotions and threatens to have her hormones rage wild. When she does demonstrate a talent, it's a doozy and very unique. Suddenly everybody that is anybody wants her and events escalate violently around her.
Ms Tyner spins a dramatic tale of a world on edge and more so between those with talent and those without. The characters are well defined and the teen angst and uncertainty well portrayed in a very unstable society. The story line is taut and suspenseful.
I simply loved it all. Well done!
