For years we've heard rumors of movements to Christ from inside Cuba. Now, for the first time, Kurt Urbanek has drawn back the curtain and shown us, in remarkable detail, just what God has been doing. You'll be inspired by the passion and sacrifice of these disciples of Christ and how they have emerged from years of op-position to spread the gospel, and thousands of new churches, throughout this island nation.
Cuba Great Awakening Church Planting Movement in Cuba Dr Kurt Urbanek 9780692355350 Books
Quietly and out of sight people in Cuba are on a spiritual quest to find meaning for life. Christians are responding to their need by sharing their faith in very attractive ways. The sheer numbers of new Christians has required churches to set aside their traditional patterns in order to meet those who are seeking God where they are. Countless new small groups where prayer and Bible study are at the heart of teaching people a new way to find hope in life are springing up overnight all over the island.Kurt Urbanek has great insights into one of the historic church planting movements of our time. Today's events will one day be registered as a great revival or harvest time in Cuba. No other land in our hemisphere can match the growth of Christianity in the last decades. Could it happen elsewhere?

Cuba Great Awakening Church Planting Movement in Cuba Dr Kurt Urbanek 9780692355350 Books Reviews
Fantastic book, if you are interested in studying church planting movements. A must read. I've been there and can confirm the writer's findings.
One of the most exciting accounts in recent history. Kurt Urbanek traces the marvelous movement in Cuba that has surpassed any ideas for Evangelical Christians. The numbers of new congregations and new believers moves one to the deepest gratitude to the God who enabled the movement. The book not only chronicles the amazing movement of evangelism and church starting but also provides excellent understanding of church planting movements and valid suggestions of ways to work in the midst of such phenomena. No Evangelical should be without this book.
An inspiring story of God's movement in Cuba. Poverty, politics, and governments are no match for the power of Almighty God to save a multitude of people. The Cuban people have discovered that true freedom is found only in Jesus Christ. Amen! Hallelujah! Gloria a Dios!
Dr. Kurt Urbanek accurately report the New Testament Church revival, or a Church Planting Movement (CPM), happening now in Cuba, under the Baptist's denominational point of view. His work covers the rich history of the Baptists' in Cuba since their arrival in the late 1800s until the ongoing revival (up until 2010). The book offers great deal of data from the two Baptist Conventions in the island nation, as well as some data from the Assemblies of God. Dr. Urbanek exposes the challenges and trials the ongoing revival imposed on the traditional Baptist structures, the attempt to change its traditions and offers suggestions to enable the revival to continue to move forward overcoming the inside hinderances.
Worth to mention the author deal with the multiple threats the revival may face with the ease of Cuban's restrictions and the eminent temptation various religious groups may have to 'train' the New Testament Church (or CPM) in Cuba squeezing it to its traditional molds.
The book is written with a ton of information about the different Baptist associations, which I found boring. I suppose some is necessary for background and context, but I what I enjoyed most was the history of Cuba, both spiritual and political. The book touches on the social impacts and shares how Christianity is growing in Cuba with quite a bit of eye-opening statistics! I enjoyed reading this book before visiting Cuba and would recommend it to others.
The author has done an amazing job of weaving the history of Baptist work in Cuba in the historical context of fluidity of changes in the culture to describe the particulars of the church planting movement. This will be a must read for volunteer teams traveling to Cuba and for those with a real interest in a church planting movement. For the first time in one's knowledge, someone has brought together the pieces of the puzzle that have been written about not only in different decades and centuries but also in differing languages. One is indebted to the painstaking work the author did to bring together the different writings and doing the statistical data to demonstrate the authenticity of the Cuban story of its unique church planting movement. It is written in an honest, sometimes almost painful candid, manner when dealing with the cause and effects of the various traditions and outside forces at work on the church in Cuba. The lessons learned, some painfully, can be appreciated by others seeking a church planting movement in their own cultural setting. One senses that each movement while having some similiar characteristics will also bare uniqueness. One hopes that those who seek to partner with our Cuban brothers and sisters will take to heart the warnings found in this writing. Many thanks to the author.
I intend to write more at my normal venues as a review, but for now let me say I've suggested this work to people seeking to help existing denominations (or groups with long standing traditions of "brick and mortar" churches) to consider how they might leverage these structures to reach many more people for Christ. At present, the limiting factor is church polity and expectations for leadership development that postpone effective church planting movements. To my knowledge only one mainline reformed denominational offshoot group has addressed this limiting factor. The rest seek revitalization without removing the bottlenecks and by considering their church planting movement aspirations as something that circumvents their ordinary ecclesiology.
Note the new review is published and hopefully will be published soon.
